Security experts and process safety engineers that understand how our products are made work together to assess the vulnerability of all The Dow Chemical Company’s manufacturing facilities worldwide using rigorous methodology developed by leading scientists and engineers from the U.S. Government’s Sandia National Labs.
Site Vulnerability Assessments (SVAs) are applied to all manufacturing sites globally to assess the risk to sites, systems, and processes. Dow also implements the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® Security Code requiring that all aspects of security be assessed and gaps be addressed. Dow exceeds the requirements of the Security Code through its global application and commencement of additional rounds of SVAs and upgrades.
The SVA process, adherence to the Security Code, the Company's integrated Emergency Services and Security auditing program, and other process safety assessments are all components of Dow’s comprehensive program and integrated approach to manufacturing facility security. This has been translated into continuous improvement in the reduction or elimination of vulnerabilities.
Dow is committed to further reduce the vulnerabilities of the Company's facilities worldwide beyond its substantial efforts to date and has established the following aggressive manufacturing site security goal.
Based on a 2006 risk assessment baseline and using Dow’s comprehensive program and integrated approach to manufacturing facility security, 18 manufacturing sites on average each year over the next four years will achieve an improved risk profile*.
